In 2007, when Jennifer Turpin was about 18 years old, she said their parents moved 10 children into a trailer deeper into their Texas property and further from sight. When Jennifer, the eldest Turpin child, was an infant, she said she and her parents lived in a nice neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas.
An attorney for the tortured Turpin siblings said that life outside their parents’ “House of Horrors” is “impossible” for some of them to navigate. She told the dispatcher that she and her siblings desperately needed help. They were beaten, starved and often shackled to furniture for months at a time. The Turpins' 17-year-old daughter was able to escape the filthy home in a Perris, about 60 miles southeast of Los Angeles, in January 2018. In Feb. 2019, David and Louise Turpin pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including torture.

Tragically, life for the Turpin children hasn’t gotten much easier. As of June 2022, many of the younfer children have been “victimized again by the system” as they were fostered by people who were later charged with abuse, according to USA Today. The conditions were uncovered in January 2018 when one of the Turpin girls, then-17-year-old Jordan Turpin, escaped through a window and called 911. Marcelino Camacho Olguin, 63, Rosa Armida Olguin, 58, and Lennys Giovanna Olguin, 37, were arrested and charged in November with nearly a dozen offenses, including child cruelty, false imprisonment and witness intimidation. According to the sisters, their parents would abuse them for even the most minor things.

Teresa Robinette’s shock at how her sister turned out is understandable. Nonetheless, what Louise did to the Turpin family children came as a shock to Teresa. The sister said she always thought of Louise as a “good girl” who never drank, smoked, or did drugs.
When police officers entered the Turpin family’s home, they found the children there so malnourished that they couldn’t even tell that one of the victims was actually a 29-year-old woman when they saved her. She was the eldest of the Turpin kids but was so underfed and unwell that her muscle growth had stagnated and she clocked in at a mere 82 pounds. Some of the children were so removed from the world that they didn’t know what medicine or police were when they were finally released from their confinement.
“They have undergone a horrible period in their life,” said Mark Uffer, chief executive officer of Corona Regional Medical Center, where the seven adult Turpin children were being treated. He said the Turpins’ name immediately leapt out at him following reports of the parents’ arrest because he recalled their large collection of kids — and David’s unusual haircut. Reacting to the news, James and Betty Turpin, David’s parents, spoke to ABC News of their disbelief. They said they talked to David once or twice a month, though they had not visited their son or their grandchildren in four or five years. Nearly four years after their dramatic escape and rescue, the Turpin sisters said they are ready to move on with their life -- and reshape their public image.

Prosecutors described how thoroughly the Turpin children were traumatized and that their cognitive impairment and nerve damage will likely affect them for the rest of their lives. When Louise’s father retired in 2012, he wanted to come to visit her, but Louise told him not to.
